Prez gives away 58th national film awards

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil gave away the 58th National Film Awards to emminent film makers and artists at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday.


Veteran Tamil filmmaker K Balachander, the man behind films like 'Iru Kodugal', 'Apoorva Raagangal' and 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye', received the Dada Saheb Phalke honour at the 58th National Film Awards in New Delhi at the function at Vigyan Bhawan.
The Dadasaheb Phalke award is conferred by the Central Government for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema.
The award consists of a Swarna Kamal , a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and a shawl.
The award is given on the recommendations of a committee of eminent persons.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni was also present on the occasion.
A highlight of this year's National film awards is that four child artistes have won the National Award this time for various films - Harsh Mayar for the film I am Kalam , Shantanu Ranganekar for the film Champions , Machindra Gadekar for the film Champions and Vivek Chabukswar for the film Baboo Band Baaja .
The Best Actor award have been bagged by K Dhanush, who is also Rajnikant s son-in-law, for the film Aadukalam (Tamil) and Salim Kumar for the film Adaminte Makan Abu (Malayalam) in which he has played a protagonist in serious role for the first time.
